For 2017 Manor Racing F1 tasked our engineers with developing a brand new steering wheel to succeed the existing three year old design. This started as a clean sheet exercise and included driver ergonomics, clutch and gear shift controls, electronics packaging all in a new composite structure. The initial development phase included competitor analysis, reviewing each teams’ steering wheels to pick out design trends and selecting for the best features.
“The initial development phase included competitor analysis, selecting the best features.”
This was followed by 3D modelling multiple concepts for review and then manufacturing a 3D printed prototype. A development wheel was assembled for driver feedback during static cockpit tests.
